Just a quick post today: I found an article on the Farrow & ball website on floor paint (and you cant go wrong using their paint). Here are the pictures if you dont want the read!

My latest design quest (and experiment) is painting the living room floor. I'm always making updates to my apartment but every update makes the unmodified parts look worse and uncohesive. The laminate floor has been the bain of my life ever since I painted the walls and woodwork in my living room. That orange- birch clolour - yuk! I deliberated over it for a while as I thought you needed real wood floor to be able to paint it but what is veneer? Its a thin piece of wood. There was a patch on the floor near the dining table where constant dragging of chairs had worn away the varnish and revealed - bare wood. So that gave me the great idea of getting an electronic sander to roughen up the varnish and paint the wood layer underneath. My boyfriend gave me a look of shock when I suggested painting the floor but now hes going along with it (he slowly accepts all the ideas eventually). I bought an electronic sander (the cheapest i could find) £15 from Argos + extra sanding paper at £1 per meter. And the colour? I think white would be the easy and obvious option, its same colour as the woodwork, adds light etc but that wouldnt be any fun. Dark floors look so sophisticated so a quick pop down to Farrow & Ball (I might scrimp on my sander but refuse to on paint) and chose "Railings" with one of the assistants. Its basically a very dark grey so should compliment the Blackened on the walls (blackened is a light blue-grey depending on the light). By the way, my living room is North facing but we have huge windows which give lots of light but no direct sunlight, it can be a greyish light sometimes. Blackened is fantastic in this room. White (as it was previously) is cr*p as it looks very dull and cold. I'll keep you posted on progress.
